Job Overview:

Our clients are looking for an Engineering Manager for the largest onshore natural gas facility in the UK, to support the planning and safe delivery of maintenance and engineering activities to ensure there are no adverse impacts on the gas storage assets, whilst maintaining the reliability and availability of the facility within agreed budget.

You will define and implement innovative maintenance and engineering processes that deliver the lowest OPEX & CAPEX cost without compromising safety, reliability and availability - taking into account any commercial and/or operational constraints.

Provide direction and leadership to staff in the Engineering Team, communicating on business and departmental objectives to ensure that staff work productively with a clear purpose to meet their objectives.

Coach, mentor and develop staff to improve their skills, promoting a culture of collaboration and an environment where all staff are empowered to innovate. Operate as a member of the Site Management Team - implementing Corporate Strategies, help deliver on business results and contribute to the decision making processes.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Implement safety management systems and ensure regulatory compliance.
  • Act as Site Main Controller in the event of a gas plant incident.
  • Ensure team and contractors are competent and compliant in SHEQ practices.
  • Lead process safety improvements and incident investigations.
  • Oversee system health and workload of the Engineering Team.
  • Support the maintenance strategy and ensure accuracy of maintenance data.
  • Define spare parts policy and maintain the asset and spares register.
  • Support procurement, contract specifications, and performance reviews.
  • Ensure implementation of maintenance and engineering policies, including asset integrity.
  • Review maintenance schedules in coordination with key stakeholders.
  • Update procedures and engineering standards based on audits and industry best practices.
  • Implement engineering solutions to improve performance and efficiency through CAPEX projects.
  • Manage change processes for gas storage assets.
  • Act as Duty Manager when required.
  • Provide leadership aligned with organizational values and strategies.
  • Conduct performance reviews and manage training and development plans.
  • Plan staffing levels and lead recruitment efforts for the engineering team.
  • Foster open communication across Operations, Maintenance, and Engineering.
  • Coordinate activities, audits, and new equipment evaluations.
  • Forecast and monitor budgets with finance collaboration.
  • Track and report operational performance data to drive improvements.

Skills & Experience:

  • Minimum 5 years' engineering experience in major accident hazard process plants (At least 2 years' experience in a managerial position)
  • Strong understanding and awareness of SHEQ and COMAH requirements.
  • Problem-solving and fault-finding initiative.
  • Excellent communication and leadership skills.
  • Able to work autonomously and manage complex team dynamics.

Education:

  • Bachelor's Degree (or equivalent) in an Engineering discipline
  • Specific technical training related to Oil & Gas Assets
