Financial Controller | High-Growth Biotech Scale-Up | Norwich/Hybrid (1-2 days)

The Client

Harmonic is excited to be working with a pioneering biotech company that is making significant strides in innovation within the agriculture sector. As a family-run business, they have built a strong reputation both in the UK and internationally, securing partnerships with major global organisations. With an ambitious growth trajectory-including massive traction at international exhibitions and increased demand from major players-they are now looking to hire a Financial Controller to lead and shape their finance function.

This is an excellent opportunity for an ambitious finance professional to step into a high-impact leadership role with a clear pathway to Finance Director. The business is at a crucial stage of scaling, and they need someone who is both hands-on in managing day-to-day finance and strategic in preparing the company for growth. The Role Reporting directly to the CEO, this is a broad and dynamic role, requiring a proactive and commercially astute finance professional. With a small but growing finance team-with 2 direct reports-you will be responsible for running the finance department, implementing scalable processes, and managing key financial operations. This is a fantastic opportunity for someone who thrives in a fast-paced, entrepreneurial environment and is eager to progress into a Finance Director role in the near future.

Key Responsibilities

  • Oversee and manage the finance function, ensuring smooth day-today operations.
  • Lead R&D tax claims and ensure compliance with relevant regulations.
  • Manage international trading and cross-border transactions, ensuring accuracy in financial reporting.
  • Oversee intercompany reconciliations and financial consolidation across multiple entities.
  • Implement and improve financial controls and procedures, bringing structure to a fast-growing business.
  • Provide commercial insights to senior leadership, supporting strategic decision-making.
  • Manage cash flow forecasting and treasury management.
  • Drive improvements in Xero and Excel-based financial reporting.
  • Support future fundraising and investor reporting as required.

What We're Looking For

  • Fully qualified accountant (ACA, ACCA, CIMA or equivalent).
  • Strong experience in R&D tax claims and relevant regulations.
  • Previous exposure to international trade and cross-border transactions.
  • Advanced proficiency in Xero and Excel.
  • Proactive and hands-on approach, comfortable working in a small but growing company.
  • Ability to work in a fast-paced, unstructured environment and implement scalable financial processes.

Desired Experience

  • Experience working in agriculture, farming or biotech sectors

Salary: £60,000 - £65,000 + benefits

Location: Hybrid (Norwich Area - Office 1-2 Days Per Week)

Availability: Will consider 3 month notice periods for the right candidate
