About the Role:

This brand-new Production Engineer position offers the opportunity to lead productivity improvements, implement Lean manufacturing processes, and drive innovation in production methods. The role involves collaborating across departments to instil best practices, reduce waste, and support new product integration.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Manage governance and review processes to align manufacturing and engineering across the product life cycle.
  • Lead production improvement projects using Lean manufacturing processes and Continuous Improvement principles.
  • Identify and implement business-wide improvement opportunities using Lean tools.
  • Collaborate with Operations, Engineering, and R&D to develop manufacturing solutions for high-mix production environments.
  • Solve production delays by addressing technical issues.
  • Conduct manufacturing safety risk assessments for new equipment, assembly aids, or processes.
  • Develop and maintain controlled processes, documentation, and business systems.
  • Use metrics and KPIs to report progress to stakeholders in engineering and production.
  • Perform value engineering on products and processes to reduce costs.
  • Provide manufacturing support for new product integration and resolve technical barriers.

Skills and Attributes:

Essential:

  • HNC/HND in Mechanical Engineering or equivalent experience in production/manufacturing in a quality-critical environment.
  • Proven expertise in Lean and Continuous Improvement principles (e.g., 5S, FMEA, VSM, A3 Problem Solving).
  • Strong IT skills, including Excel, Word, PowerPoint, Visio, and Microsoft Project.
  • Critical thinking and ability to evaluate and improve product and process designs.
  • Analytical mindset with excellent problem-solving skills.
  • Strong communication skills and ability to work collaboratively at a senior level.
  • Self-starter with a proactive attitude and ability to work in a dynamic environment.

Desirable:

  • Experience in effective project management.
  • Black Belt Certification in Lean Six Sigma.
  • Experience with CAD software.
  • Electrical knowledge and/or testing experience.
