Marks Sattin is pleased to be exclusively partnering with a reputable wholesale distribution organisation in Nottingham to recruit a commercially minded Financial Controller. This is a newly defined position which will business partner with the wider Senior Leadership team, providing sound commercial and financial strategy to the UK Managing Director.

As the business are a product-led organisation that distribute a high volume of goods, the Financial Controller will be based on site 5 days per week. Therefore applicants must be within a commutable distance to Nottingham.

The purpose of this Financial Controller position is to proactively partner with the UK Managing Director through the development and delivery of the strategic plan to meet the group's targets regarding growth, profitability and cashflow. The Financial Controller will have overall responsibility for the finance function, strategic planning - including business planning, budgeting, forecasting, internal controls, risk and governance

Key Responsibilities of the Financial Controller include:

  • Managing and developing a team of 3 direct reports. Promoting a "best practice" culture.
  • Translating the company's strategy into KPIs, financial targets, and actions to fulfill business needs regarding sales, profitability, and cashflow.
  • Providing competitor and trend analysis to identify opportunities, risks and best practices.
  • Being an active member of the Senior Leadership Team, generating commercial insights and recommendations that will ultimately drive financial and business performance.
  • Ensuring robust internal controls are in place, ensuring company policies and procedures are being adhered to.
  • Managing cashflow development according to the strategic plan and budget.
  • Continuously improving the finance function and ensuring the requirements of the Group is met.
  • Promoting a "Customer first" focus across the team and wider business.
  • Supporting the UK Managing Director financial planning and analysis duties to develop the business strategy for expected profitable growth.
  • Maintaining close interactions with other Regional Financial Controller's throughout the group.
  • Supporting projects and activities as needed, including participation in group activities and projects.
  • Acting as Finance Lead on a new ERP system implementation.

To be considered, you will:

  • Be a Qualified Accountant - ACA / ACCA / CIMA.
  • Have experience as a Finance Manager, Financial Controller or Head of Finance.
  • Have team management and development experience.
  • Be a commercial minded finance leader, with the ability to identify opportunities and risks that may impact financial and business performance.
  • Have experience working in a fast-paced and ever-changing environment.
  • A self-starting and motivated individual who is keen to make a difference.
  • Be an excellent communicator at all levels, with the ability to negotiate, influence and be decisive.
  • Be local to the Nottingham area as this role requires on-site presence 5 days per week.
  • Be passionate about driving the business to even greater heights.
