Position: Tutor for GCSE (English/Maths/Science)

Location: Nottingham

Hourly Rate: £28 - £30 per hour.

As a Tutor specialising in core subjects for secondary age pupils, your primary purpose is to provide personalised academic support and guidance to students, fostering a positive and engaging learning environment. This role is crucial in helping students develop a strong foundation in key subjects, laying the groundwork for their academic success. The role of a tutor is to provide academic support and guidance to students in a one-on-one or small-group setting. Tutors help reinforce classroom learning, address individual learning needs, and enhance overall academic performance. While the specific responsibilities may vary based on the subject and level of education, the core duties of a tutor generally include:

  • Provide face to face support to students.
  • Design and implement effective lesson plans tailored to the individual needs and learning styles of the student.
  • Deliver instruction in core subjects such as English, Maths and Science ensuring alignment with the relevant curriculum standards.
  • Conduct assessments to identify students' strengths, weaknesses, and learning gaps.
  • Provide one-on-one or small-group tutoring sessions to address specific academic challenges and reinforce key concepts.
  • Foster a positive and supportive learning environment that encourages students to ask questions and seek clarification
  • Regularly assess and track students' progress to gauge the effectiveness of interventions.
  • Collaborate with parents, teachers, and other stakeholders to communicate progress and discuss strategies for improvement
  • Develop and curate educational materials, resources, and tools to enhance the learning experience
  • Utilise a variety of teaching aids, technology, and interactive activities to make lessons engaging and effective
  • Modify teaching methods and strategies to accommodate diverse learning needs and styles.
  • Stay informed about educational trends, best practices, and curriculum updates to continuously enhance instructional approaches
  • Maintain open and transparent communication with students, parents, and school staff regarding progress, challenges, and goals.
  • Collaborate with teachers to align tutoring sessions with classroom instruction and support overall academic development.
  • Encourage a positive attitude towards learning and help students build confidence in their academic abilities, whilst having a passion for knowledge and curiosity, promoting a lifelong love of learning.

Experience/Knowledge

  • Proven experience in UK based teaching/tuition.
  • DBS on the Update Service
  • Current Knowledge of the National Curriculum
