The Role:
We are looking for a dedicated BTEC Construction Tutor to deliver high-quality vocational education to students in a PRU setting at KS3 and KS4 levels. In this temp role, you will be responsible for planning and delivering engaging, hands-on lessons that equip students with practical skills and knowledge in construction. This role could be made permanent for the right candidate.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Plan, prepare, and deliver engaging BTEC Construction lessons tailored to meet the varying abilities and needs of students within a PRU setting.
  • Provide hands-on learning experiences in construction-related skills such as carpentry, bricklaying, health & safety, and site management.
  • Monitor and assess students' progress, providing regular feedback and tailored support to help them achieve their full potential.
  • Foster a positive and inclusive learning environment that encourages resilience and personal growth.
  • Implement effective behaviour management strategies to support students with social, emotional, and mental health (SEMH) needs.
  • Work collaboratively with support staff, parents, and external agencies to ensure the well-being and academic progress of students.
  • Ensure compliance with health and safety regulations within a workshop/classroom environment.

Minimum Requirements:
To be considered for this role, candidates must meet the following criteria:

  • Experience: At least 1-2 years of experience teaching or delivering construction-related training, ideally within a secondary school, PRU, or vocational education setting.
  • Qualifications: A relevant qualification in Construction (e.g., Level 3 Diploma, HNC, or equivalent), along with a recognised teaching qualification such as QTS, PGCE, or Assessor/Training qualification (AET, CAVA, etc.).
  • Training: Experience in classroom management, behaviour management strategies, and differentiated instruction. Familiarity with safeguarding policies and procedures in an alternative provision setting.
  • Skills: Excellent communication and practical skills, with the ability to inspire and engage students facing challenges in mainstream education.

To be considered for the higher end of the salary bracket, candidates should demonstrate:

  • Advanced Teaching Experience: Extensive experience in delivering BTEC Construction at Level 1/2 with a proven track record of student success.
  • Leadership or Coordinator Roles: Experience as a subject lead, curriculum developer, or involvement in vocational initiatives and industry partnerships.
  • Professional Development: Continued professional development (CPD) in vocational education, health and safety, and construction skills training.
