As Health and Safety Manager at Nuneaton and Bedworth Borough Council, you will ensure effective health and safety management across the council. You will monitor performance, develop policies, conduct audits and deliver training to promote a safe working environment. Key Responsibilities:
- Ensure the Council is demonstrably compliant with the relevant Health & Safety legislation, including the identification of areas/issues that require improvement and recommend and develop strategic projects to minimise the moral, legal and financial risk to the Council and external stakeholders
- Ensure clear strategic direction with coherence between functions and responsibilities, established through service and organisational plans and within the resources allocated with the aim of achieving business objectives, enabling transformation and delivering performance improvements across the Council's
- Health and Safety service
- To research and develop health, safety and welfare policies and procedures in conjunction with managers, trades unions and other colleagues, in accordance with the Council’s Health and Safety Policy.
- To keep abreast of current health, safety and welfare legislation and to advise the Council where it affects employees’ or the employer’s duty.
- To advise and guide all managers on all health, safety and welfare requirements, including overseeing the provision of health surveillance for employees and liaison with other parties as required.
- To carry out health and safety audits and investigations in a planned and systematic way which will include undertaking Audits of high risk areas and provide reports and action plans in line with the Councils Health and Safety Audit Plan.
- To liaise with HSE Inspectors, Fire Prevention Officers and similar bodies and to ensure that appropriate notification and returns are made in respect of appropriate legislation.
- To liaise with relevant parties regarding claims arising from accidents at work, including insurers, solicitors and HSE Executive.
- To liaise with health and safety co-ordinators within the Directorates to ensure consistency of approach to health, safety and welfare and provide corporate information to safety representatives as required.
The Person
- Significant experience in the provision of Health and Safety advice and support at senior level in public sector or similar organisation.
- Experience of undertaking health and safety related audits across a wide range of areas.
- Experience of designing and delivering effective health and safety training/presentations at all levels.
- Educated to degree level in a relevant subject.
- NEBOSH National General Certificate.
- NEBOSH Construction Certificate or willingness to work towards.
- P405 Asbestos Regulations.
