The Project:
Dewey Group is currently recruiting for a Quantity Surveyor to join a leading contractor, working on a variety of construction projects across the UK. The role will involve commercial management duties, interfacing with the Estimating and Finance teams, and managing contracts from procurement to final account.
Job Description:
As a Quantity Surveyor, you will report to the Commercial Director and be responsible for managing the financial aspects of multiple projects. This includes monitoring costs and revenue, preparing payment applications, and ensuring projects are delivered on budget and on time. You will also engage with clients to ensure that contracts are understood and adhered to, as well as manage subcontract accounts and variations.
Key Responsibilities:
- Review and agree Subcontract conditions, primarily under NEC and JCT contracts.
- Monitor costs and revenue to ensure profitability of projects.
- Handle payment applications and resolve any payment disputes.
- Oversee post-contract administration and project financial performance.
- Assess client creditworthiness and secure additional credit insurance when necessary.
- Work closely with Estimating and Contracts teams to align with project objectives.
- Visit project sites to monitor performance and assess risks.
- Ensure that all stakeholders understand contractual obligations.
- Assist with training junior Quantity Surveyors when required.
- Manage subcontract accounts from procurement to final account.
- Understand and support tendering and procurement processes.
- Identify, value, and agree on variations.
- Prepare Final Accounts and associated documentation.
- Prepare and present loss and expense claims.
- Handle adjudication claims and dispute resolution.
- Conduct Monthly CVR analysis to track financial performance.
- Ensure compliance with Collateral Warranties.
Experience, Skills & Attributes:
- Proven success as a Quantity Surveyor within Civil Engineering or Construction.
- Experience within a specialist sub-contracting organization or the piling/geotechnical sector is desirable.
- Degree in Quantity Surveying or equivalent experience is highly desirable.
- In-depth understanding of construction processes, ideally including geotechnical activities.
- Knowledge of NEC and JCT contracts is essential.
- Strong commercial awareness and numeracy skills.
- Excellent negotiation skills and ability to communicate clearly and concisely.
- Strong IT skills, including experience with project costing software and Microsoft Office.
- Ability to make quick decisions and manage multiple projects simultaneously.
