Job Title: Machine Shop ManagerReports to: Operations Director Job Summary: As a Machine Shop Manager, you will use your technical knowledge to develop and enhance manufacturing processes, procedures, and equipment. You will ensure that equipment, tooling, and fixtures meet specifications and support a LEAN culture. Leading and training a team of operatives and engineers, you will maintain high production standards to meet customer orders and expectations. This role requires a proactive, hands-on individual committed to quality and excellence. Key Responsibilities:
- Lead and coordinate multi-disciplinary teams to achieve machine shop objectives.
- Oversee daily production, setting instructions for shop floor teams.
- Develop efficient production routes.
- Manage tooling costs and stock.
- Estimate costs, quote, and oversee route and tool design.
- Ensure quality, safety, and timely delivery of all outputs.
- Conduct trials for new products and recommend equipment upgrades.
- Motivate and develop the team through training and performance reviews.
- Monitor and communicate shop performance and foster effective communication.
- Operate all machine shop equipment proficiently and train others.
- Collaborate with other departments to meet client deadlines.
- Champion continuous improvement within the department.
- Plan and manage new program launches and equipment retrofits.
Qualifications & SkillsÂ
- Education: Minimum of 5 GCSEs including English and Mathematics, plus an HNC in Engineering.
- Experience: At least 5 years in a machining facility, ideally with steel. XYZ machine experience is beneficial
- Strong business ethics and integrity.
- Expertise in CNCs, lathes, grinders, and millers, including CNC programming (FANUC controls).
- Ability to read CAD/CAM drawings and diagnose tooling faults.
- Good understanding of customer requirements and market dynamics.
- Strong organizational skills, initiative, and pressure tolerance.
- Excellent interpersonal skills and ability to work at all levels.
- Basic IT and numerical skills.
Physical Demands: 35 hours per week, with overtime as required. Standard hours are 08:00-16:00 Monday-Thursday and 08:00-13:00 Friday. This role is based in Oldbury and may involve travel. If you're ready to make an impact in a dynamic machine shop environment, we encourage you to apply!
