Job Overview:

We are seeking a compassionate and dedicated 1:1 Teaching Assistant to join our team within the special educational needs department. The successful candidate will support a young person with special educational needs, ensuring they have access to a tailored and inclusive education. This role requires patience, adaptability, and a genuine passion for making a positive difference in the lives of children with additional needs.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Provide individualised support to a student with identified SEN, following their Education, Health, and Care Plan (EHCP).
  • Assist the student in accessing the curriculum, adapting learning materials as needed under the guidance of the class teacher.
  • Foster a safe and supportive learning environment, promoting independence and self-confidence.
  • Work collaboratively with the class teacher, SENCO, and other staff to implement tailored strategies and interventions.
  • Support the student during classroom activities, break times, and transitions between lessons.
  • Encourage positive behaviour in line with the school's behaviour policy and the student's needs.
  • Monitor and report on the student's progress, providing feedback to teaching staff and parents/carers.

Person Specification:

Essential:

  • Experience working with children or young people with special educational needs.
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills.
  • Ability to build positive relationships with students, staff, and parents/carers.
  • Patience, empathy, and a proactive attitude to support learning and development.
  • A commitment to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children.

Desirable:

  • Relevant qualifications such as a Level 2/3 Teaching Assistant certificate or equivalent.
  • Training in SEN-specific strategies (Autism, ADHD, or sensory processing).
  • Knowledge of Team Teach or similar behaviour management strategies.
  • Experience with assistive technologies or alternative communication systems, such as PECs or Makaton.
