Communication Support Worker (SEN School)
Location: Oldham
Hours: Monday - Friday, 8:30 AM - 3:30 PM
Salary: 16.11 PH
About the Role:
We are looking for a compassionate and skilled Communication Support Worker to join our team at a Special Educational Needs (SEN) school in Oldham. As a Communication Support Worker, you will provide essential support to students with communication difficulties, helping them access the curriculum, participate in school activities, and develop their communication skills. This is a fantastic opportunity to make a real difference in the lives of students with SEN.
Key Responsibilities:
- Provide one-on-one and small group support to students with communication difficulties, including those with speech and language delays, autism spectrum disorders, or other related needs.
- Assist students in developing communication strategies, including the use of augmentative and alternative communication (AAC) systems and strategies.
- Support students during lessons, helping them understand instructions and express their thoughts and ideas effectively.
- Promote the use of appropriate language and communication in social settings and classroom activities.
- Assist teachers in adapting lesson plans and materials to meet the communication needs of individual students.
- Build positive relationships with students, encouraging their independence and confidence in communication.
- Observe and monitor students' progress in communication, providing feedback to teachers and contributing to individualized education plans (IEPs).
- Work collaboratively with a multidisciplinary team of teachers, therapists, and support staff to deliver an integrated approach to communication support.
Requirements:
- Experience supporting individuals with communication difficulties, preferably in an SEN setting (training will be provided).
- Knowledge of communication strategies, including the use of AAC devices, sign language, Makaton, or other communication systems.
- Patience, empathy, and a genuine passion for helping children with communication challenges.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to build rapport with students and staff.
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
- A commitment to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children.
- Previous experience working in a school or education setting is an advantage but not essential.
