Job Overview:

We are seeking a passionate and knowledgeable Autism Specialist/Advisor to join our team. The successful candidate will play a pivotal role in supporting students with Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD) across the school. This role involves working closely with teachers, support staff, parents, and external agencies to develop and implement strategies that enhance the learning experience and outcomes for students with autism.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Individualized Support: Develop and implement personalized support plans for students with autism, ensuring their needs are met in both academic and social settings.
  • Staff Training: Provide training and guidance to teachers and support staff on autism-friendly practices and strategies to promote an inclusive classroom environment.
  • Parental Engagement: Collaborate with parents and caregivers to ensure a cohesive approach to supporting students with autism, including regular communication and involvement in decision-making processes.
  • Advisory Role: Serve as the school's lead advisor on autism, offering expert guidance on best practices, new developments, and resources in the field of autism education.
  • Collaboration: Work alongside external agencies and professionals to ensure comprehensive support for students, including speech therapists, occupational therapists, and psychologists.
  • Monitoring and Evaluation: Regularly assess the progress of students with autism, adjusting support strategies as needed to ensure continuous improvement.
  • Policy Development: Contribute to the development and implementation of school policies related to SEN and autism, ensuring they reflect current research and best practices.

Qualifications and Experience:

  • Education: A degree in Special Education, Psychology, or a related field. A postgraduate qualification in Autism Studies or a similar area is highly desirable.
  • Experience: Demonstrated experience working with children with autism in an educational setting, with a strong understanding of the challenges and opportunities within SEN education.
  • Skills:
    • Deep knowledge of Autism Spectrum Disorder and evidence-based practices for supporting students with autism.
    • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to work effectively with students, staff, and parents.
    • Strong organizational skills, with the ability to manage multiple priorities and tasks.
