The UKIFS's goal is to build the first Fusion Reactor to be connected to the grid and remain on.

Are you a detail-oriented and experienced Cost Engineer with a strong background in financial project management? UKIFS is looking for a skilled Cost Engineer to join our team. In this role, you will provide essential project controls services to Project Managers, offering estimating and forecasting support, monitoring budgets, and producing reports on financial metrics. You'll play a key role in earned value production and analysis, working with planners and project managers to identify financial trends and address potential problems proactively.

This position is ideal for someone with a passion for project financial management and who is eager to help drive the success of major projects.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Cost Estimating & Forecasting: Support Project Managers by providing cost estimates, creating cost projections, and producing forward looks for projects using Primavera. Develop s-curves to illustrate earned value metrics and help track project expenditure trends.
  • Earned Value Management: Implement earned value management techniques, analysing spend profiles, recommending corrective actions, and producing dashboards to present earned value metrics in a standardized, easily understandable format.
  • Financial Analysis & Reporting: Identify financial trends, exceptions, and potential issues on projects. Work closely with the Project Manager and Planner to address any issues, such as cost increases or delays, and provide actionable recommendations to meet project goals.
  • Collaboration with Finance Team: Work with the Finance team to assemble forecasts and minimize duplication of efforts. Assist in creating and managing Work Breakdown Structures (WBS) and ensure accurate financial data.
  • Project Support: Assist in tendering and project changes by providing cost analysis. Offer expert advice and coaching to project teams on financial management, including earned value and budgeting techniques.
  • Methodology Development: Define and set up the overall cost engineering methodologies for UKIFS. Evolve practices in line with changes to project management models and software systems.
  • Training & Mentoring: Provide guidance and coaching on earned value management and cost control methodologies to internal teams, including recruiting and training new cost engineers as needed.

Qualifications & Experience:

Essential:

  • Significant experience in cost engineering, specifically within large, complex projects.
  • Strong proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite, with advanced Excel skills.
  • Experience with Primavera or similar enterprise planning tools.
  • Solid understanding of financial project management, including earned value management and cost control processes.
  • Degree in a scientific, mathematics, economics, or related discipline.
  • Experience in working with or supporting teams to analyse financial data and identify trends and issues.
  • Proven ability to engage with people at all levels of a project to ensure accurate and effective financial reporting.

Desirable:

  • Project management qualification or membership of a relevant professional body (e.g., ACosteE).
  • Previous experience in a technical or scientific environment, particularly nuclear or energy sectors.
