Accounts Assistant - Projects Specialist - £19-£22 Per Hour (Umbrella) - Oxford, Oxfordshire

FryerMiles is partnering with a market leading business based in Oxford, Oxfordshire. They're looking to recruit an Accounts Assistant- Projects Specialist for a 6-month period initially, with the potential to turn into a permanent position.

The client is ideally looking for someone with good general education and numeracy knowledge, excellent general IT skills including familiarity with Microsoft Word and Excel. Experience using Oracle Financials would be a considerable advantage. The position involves communicating with various people, both within the department and externally. The role would suit a self-directed individual with good organisational and planning skills, who enjoys working proactively to achieve objectives.

Key responsibilities:

  • Provide PI's with regular financial reports on their grants, along with guidance and support to help them manage their funds efficiently
  • Initiate regular meetings with PI's to review their project portfolios, addressing any issues or concerns and proposing innovative solutions to identify challenges
  • Ensure that all grant expenditures are accurate, and timesheets are properly completed before submitting reports to the Assurance Team and the relevant Funder.
  • Gather all necessary information for specific audits, ensuring that the PI's justifications align with the Funder's Terms and Conditions
  • Propose and implement improvements to current working process
  • Use the 'Core Allocation Report' to be able to forecast the salaries committed on the payroll system for relevant projects, using excel formulae, which is due on the 3 rd working day before the end of the month
  • Prepare the department commitment report using Oracle, which is due on the 3 rd working day before the end of the month
  • Run PSA reports as soon as the Project Ledger is closed, ready to distribute to all PI's, and prepare the monthly grant lists for distribution
  • Work with PI's and Project managers to ensure expenditure has been charged and budgets are being utilised appropriately
  • Ensure expenditure is in line with X5 costing and with the funders Ts and C's
  • Asses residual balances and deal with them as appropriate

Qualifications:

  • Advanced understanding of Excel (Macro's)
  • Degree level or equivalent
  • Good interpersonal skills, being able to develop effective working relationships, with both academic and non-academic colleagues
  • Line manager experience
  • Full or part AAT, or equivalent would be desirable
  • A working knowledge of financial software, preferably Oracle Financials
  • Experience in financial management within education or similar
