This is demonstrated by being nominated for the 2021 CIEEM best small consultancy. Due to their success, they have an excellent opportunity for a project coordinator to join the team. Your new roleThis is a new role in the business, they take on interns and seasonal ecologists and train them up to be consultants. This can be a steep learning curve with lots of ecological skills and consultancy skills to learn. To support them the PC can provide a really important role between the ecologist and clients, communicating effectively and in a timely manner, enabling the ecologist to initially focus on their ecology skills. Over time they can learn the consultancy skills in a supportive environment. The PC will be project manager and the more junior ecologist will be the assistant project manager. The assistant will conduct the surveys and report back to the PC about survey findings. They will discuss recommendations together and the PC will then be point of contact for liaison with the client, keeping the assistant cc'd in on correspondence and attending meetings etc so they can learn the art of effective communication.This will be a 9-5 role which will not require any fieldwork, but will require work from the office as effective liaison with the team will be crucial.Responsibilities:
- Project management (liaison with resource coordinator about survey schedule)
- Liaison with assistant project managers
- Liaison with clients
- Production and review of quotes
- Production and review of reports
This is the perfect role for someone of a Consultant/Senior Ecologist level wanting to step away from fieldwork and sit behind a nice comfy desk, getting wonderfully passionate ecologists to do the dirty work for them!What you'll need to succeed
- Genuine and demonstrable enthusiasm for ecology and the environment;
- Experience of habitat surveys (UK Habs/ NVC) and protected species surveys;
- Excellent understanding of survey design, industry best practice and mitigation measures;
- Excellent communication skills (with colleagues, clients and third parties);
- Motivated to work both independently and as part of a team; and
- Comfortable designing surveys and quoting for work.
Desirable:
- Full member of CIEEM (or eligible if not currently held);
- Excellent report writing skills;
- Degree or equivalent in an ecology related discipline;
- Experience of line managing and mentoring junior members of staff; and
- Comfortable generating new work and networking.
