Our client, an established financial services company, is seeking a highly skilled and passionate Technical Skills Manager to lead and execute their comprehensive training strategy. This role will focus on supporting the development and progression of the technical team, with a particular emphasis on training within the Accounting and Audit sectors. You will play a critical role in designing, delivering, and optimising training programmes, promoting career progression, and ensuring compliance with industry standards.

As the Technical Skills Manager, you will guide trainees through their development journey, delivering tailored training solutions to meet both business and individual growth needs. You will also work closely with internal and external stakeholders, ensuring the technical team is well-equipped to meet the challenges of the evolving accounting and audit landscape.

Technical Skills Manager - About The Role

Key Responsibilities:

  • Lead Training Strategy Execution - Develop and implement a comprehensive Accounting & Audit training programme, covering all stages of technical team members’ development.
  • Trainee Development & Bridging Support - Mentor and support trainees during their first three years, integrating formal learning with practical applications.
  • Career Progression & Talent Mapping - Create structured frameworks for technical skill progression, outlining clear growth pathways and necessary skills for each level.
  • Promote Training Opportunities - Curate, manage, and promote a catalogue of training events, both internal and external, delivered by technical experts.
  • Deliver Engaging Training Sessions - Conduct both in-person and virtual training sessions, utilising interactive case studies and learning methods.
  • Create & Manage Learning Materials - Develop a range of digital resources (manuals, Loom videos, presentations) to enhance and support training programmes.
  • Collaborate on Skills Development - Work with discipline heads to identify skills gaps and create tailored training solutions aligned with business needs.
  • Ensure Compliance & Industry Standards - Collaborate with the Group Compliance Manager and regulatory bodies (e.g., AAT, CTA, ACCA, ICAEW) to stay updated on accounting and auditing regulations.
  • Evaluate & Improve Training Impact - Assess training effectiveness through feedback and data analysis, implementing continuous improvements to enhance training outcomes.
  • Maximise Training Resources - Lead the adoption of professional memberships and external learning opportunities to advance technical expertise.

The successful Technical Skills Manager will have/be:

  • Fully ACA/ACCA qualified, with at least 4 years of senior audit and/or accounting experience.
  • In-depth knowledge of audit methodologies and accounting standards (e.g., IFRS, UK GAAP), with a strong understanding of regulatory developments within the accounting and audit sector.
  • Prior experience in designing and delivering in-person and virtual training sessions or mentoring within a professional setting.
  • A passion for learning and professional development, with a solid understanding of adult learning principles.
  • Excellent communication and presentation skills, with the ability to deliver training in an engaging and accessible way.
  • Strong organisational and multitasking abilities, with experience managing multiple training programmes and projects simultaneously.
  • Ability to collaborate with various stakeholders across the business and influence teams effectively.
  • Strong IT skills, including proficiency in PowerPoint and MS Office.
