Purpose:

As an HSE Advisor for Balfour Beatty, you will play a key role in driving the Health, Safety, and Environmental (HS&E) performance on overhead line projects. You will provide expert advice and support to ensure operational requirements are met and, where possible, exceeded. This role supports the Head of HS&E and Senior HS&E Advisor in achieving the Zero Harm objectives and maintaining high safety standards across all projects.

Key Accountabilities:

- Fully understand and support the delivery of the UK HS&E Strategy, with a focus on the specific challenges of overhead line projects.- Contribute to the implementation, delivery, and review of the BU Zero Harm Action Plan and Sustainability Action Plan at both the business and/or project level.- Support the achievement of HS&E Key Performance Indicators (KPIs) at the project and business level.- Assist work-winning teams with high-quality HS&E responses for bids, proposals, and PQQs (Pre-Qualification Questionnaires).- Provide expert support in investigating accidents, incidents, and near-miss events related to overhead line works in accordance with Balfour Beatty Group Standards and company requirements.- Collaborate with operational management to complete risk-based Service Level Agreements (SLAs) for each project and ensure quarterly reviews.- Conduct regular site inspections in accordance with the project’s risk matrix, ensuring safety practices and compliance are maintained.- Produce formal reports via the Project Portal to document planned and unplanned HS&E inspections, and assess project performance against UK HS&E Regulatory Framework and UK Business Management System requirements.- Regularly review Health and Safety Risk Management, ensuring that all risks and opportunities are identified and actively managed on overhead line projects.

Skills, Knowledge & Experience:

- Relevant Health & Safety qualification, such as H&S Diploma, NVQ, or Degree (or equivalent level 6 qualification). Candidates working towards these qualifications will also be considered if they have relevant on-site experience.- Working towards or currently hold Chartered Membership of IOSH (Institution of Occupational Safety and Health).- Ability to influence and promote a positive HS&E culture within teams.- Competence in incident investigation and root cause analysis, especially in the context of overhead line work.- Strong understanding of the UK Health and Safety Regulatory Framework, particularly for overhead line construction and maintenance.- Ability to prepare formal written reports on HS&E topics.- Experience in project planning and project management.- Demonstrated commitment to continual learning and professional development, adding distinctive value to customers and Balfour Beatty.- Broad experience in complex construction, civils projects, or national grid projects, with specific experience in overhead lines.- Strong ability to engage with and converse at all levels of an organisation- Previous experience working on overhead line projects or within the national grid sector is highly beneficial.We appreciate you taking the time to view this advert.
