Reed Accountancy Oxfordshire are working to find a Payroll Officer to join one of the Oxford colleges where you’ll play a crucial role in managing the payrolls and associated administration. This is an ongoing temp position with the chance of this becoming a permanent role later down the line. They are looking to pay an hourly rate of up to £19.55per hour and they are looking to get someone started quickly.

Main Duties and Responsibilities

Payroll Management:

  • Oversee the processing of all payrolls, including monthly payrolls for approximately 230 staff, casual workers, and external tuition.
  • Process all deductions correctly, including statutory deductions, pensions, student loans, and other loans, ensuring timely payments to appropriate bodies.
  • Create and maintain monthly deduction schedules, reconciling them to the payroll and accounting software.
  • Generate payroll reports and ensure delivery of physical pay slips to those unable to access the online system.
  • Implement pay awards, salary increments, and other salary changes accurately.
  • Serve as the first point of contact for all payroll and pension-related queries.
  • Perform monthly reconciliation of all payroll-related control accounts in the finance system.
  • Enrol staff into the correct pension scheme (USS, OSPS, or NEST) and regularly review their eligibility.
  • Code and prepare journal entries to post receipts to the ledger.

Qualifications and Skills

  • Proven experience in payroll management.
  • Strong understanding of payroll legislation and compliance.
  • Able to reconcile bank accounts and nominal ledger accounts
  • Ability to work collaboratively and build strong relationships across departments.
  • Proficiency in payroll and accounting software.
