As a Primary Classroom Assistant, you will be based in the SEN unit, working closely with Oxford children who have Autism (ASD), ADHD, speech & language difficulties, sensory processing needs, and other learning challenges. The ultimate goal is to help them engage with learning, develop confidence, and transition into mainstream classes.
Primary Classroom Assistant Day-to-Day Responsibilities
- Provide 1:1 and small-group support for students in the SEN unit, ensuring their academic and emotional needs are met.
- Assist students as they integrate into mainstream classes, adapting lessons and providing extra support where needed.
- Support children with communication difficulties, social interactions, and sensory processing needs, using tailored strategies.
- Work alongside teachers, SENCOs, and therapists to develop individual learning plans (EHCPs) and track student progress.
- Use visual aids, structured routines, and hands-on learning techniques to enhance engagement.
- Assist with personal care for children who need extra support.
What We're Looking For
- Experience working with children in an SEN or mainstream setting-this could be in a school, nursery, care role, or personal experience.
- A strong understanding of SEN, including Autism, ADHD, and communication difficulties.
- Patience, resilience, and a proactive attitude-you'll need to adapt to the needs of each student.
- A Level 3 qualification in Childcare or Early Years is a bonus but not essential. Hands-on experience is highly valued.
- A genuine passion for helping all children thrive, regardless of their learning needs.
This is more than just an Oxford Primary Classroom Assistant role-it's a chance to make a real difference in a child's education.
