Head of Data - 70K - 85K DOE - Hybrid - Cumbria

I'm working with a huge insurance company partner looking to appoint a new Head Of Data to lead and execute the companies strategy and build a data team.

My client is looking for an experienced individual willing to come into the office minimum 2 days a month in Cumbria all expenses paid. A great opportunity for a monthly trip to the Lakes to enjoy the outdoors!

The role

  • Redefine and execute the data strategy, including data governance, data quality, and data management in addition to monetisation opportunities.
  • Working with stakeholders to bring data theories to life in terms of their practical application to gain agreement/input and ensure there is clarity on business benefits and a path to assess benefits realisation, ensuring iterative learning occurs.
  • Creation and leadership of a data function providing guidance, direction, and support for day-to-day activities including hands-on work, enabling the team to generate actionable insights that allow the business to improve customer and commercial outcomes for The Idol and its partners.
  • Assess and adapt reporting/analysis suite making recommendations on improvements as appropriate to secure "buy in" to see these recommendations through to delivery.
  • Responsible for provision of tools and SME guidance to enable the ability to generate accurate and timely reporting for internal and external stakeholders.
  • Drive a culture of efficiency accessing data, through the retirement of legacy manual reporting processes and effective promotion and embedding of self-service.
  • Promote data literacy within the company alongside a culture that considers how we measure the impact of changes, embedding this ethos in development squads and product teams through promotion and provision of robust measurement methodologies.
  • To define the approach (as part of the future strategy) for a continuous evolution and improvement of the use of data/insight to ensure solutions are best in class, and that value is continually generated from the data asset.
  • Develop strong partnerships with engineering and product teams to deliver on major cross functional projects, working closely to support the design, build, and maintenance of a robust data infrastructure.
  • Explore new sources of data internally and externally that could add value to wider propositions
  • To be accountable for the use and storage of the data considering PII and GDPR requirements working closely with compliance.
  • Consider, relevant to your role, the needs and objectives of all our customers, including vulnerable customers, to ensure that they receive good outcomes.
  • Manage, motivate, and develop employees at all levels, in a manner that is consistent with the
  • Company's policies and procedures, to maximise the performance of the area.

Skills

  • Programme leadership with a proven track record of delivery.
  • Experience leading a data team or function.
  • Significant professional experience in either data engineering or analysis, ideally within an insurance environment.
  • Knowledge of database technology such as Clickhouse, Postgres, MySQL, as well as Cloud Platforms such as AWS, Azure etc.
  • Experience with CI/CD, data architectures, pipelines, quality, and code management.
  • Experience with Extract, Transform, Load (ETL) processes.
  • Experience with common data languages (e.g. Python, Scala), SQL, and data warehouses (e.g.
  • Clickhouse, Redshift, BigQuery, Snowflake, Databricks).
  • Experience defining and documenting complex data solutions and processing using JSON, XML (Python or R).
  • Experience integrating and working with data visualization tools like Tableau, Qlik, or Power BI.
  • Bachelor's degree in engineering, Mathematics, Science or a related field (or equivalent work experience).
