Design Engineer
Peterborough – Hybrid working 3 days a week on site

An exciting opportunity exists within the Component Engineering Base Engine Team as they approach a period of significant investment in new design and an interesting military project.
This role will be focused on design solutions to address challenging requirements, from projects within New Product Introduction, New Technology or updates to existing platforms
Job Responsibilities & Duties of the Design Engineer
- Design and packaging of a variety of core engine components which include:
- Major aluminum and cast-iron castings, geartrain, valvetrain, drivetrain and in-cylinder components. Components related to breather, cooling & lubrication systems, FEAD systems
- Planning and managing project and sub-project deliverables, ability to lead
- Conducting risk assessment through effective FMEA generation on components and systems to identify and address design risks and determine validation needs.
- Conduct or generate reports to support component and system design reviews
- Development of drawings to the clients standards and other technical data to support the release of parts for prototype and volume production.
- Work with suppliers using APQP methodology and tools
- Developing strong relationships with suppliers where travel is encouraged to ensure design solutions are aligned to high quality and cost expectations
Skills and Experience required of the Design Engineer
- Knowledge in a minimum of one or more of the following Core Engine systems:
- Rotating Systems, Valvetrain, Castings, Lubrication, Breather and Cooling systems, Bolted joint and sealing experience
- Minimum of 6 years’ design experience in CAD
- Strong technical background (HNC or technical degree preferred in mechanical or automotive engineering) though other qualifications or experience are equally valued
- Design knowledge of engine & mechanical components and systems
- Good understanding of Component Manufacturing principles & processes
- Good understanding of Manufacturing Assembly principles
