Financial Controller, Plymouth, up to £50k (DOE)

My Client, a well established (5+ decades), growing, family owned business in Plymouth is looking for a highly competent and experienced Interim Financial Controller to take ownership of the financial operations.

The successful candidate will play a vital role in ensuring the accuracy and efficiency of the financial reporting and control systems.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Financial Reporting: Lead the month-end close process, ensuring timely and accurate production of monthly financial statements (P&L, balance sheet, cash flow).
  • Financial Analysis: Analyze financial performance, identify trends, and provide insightful reports to management.
  • Accounting Operations: Oversee accounts payable, accounts receivable, and other key accounting functions.
  • Compliance: Ensure compliance with all applicable accounting standards and regulatory requirements.
  • Internal Controls: Maintain and strengthen internal controls to safeguard company assets.
  • Process Improvement: Identify opportunities to streamline and improve financial processes.
  • Team Management: Manage and mentor a small finance team, providing guidance and support.
  • Special Projects: Assist with ad-hoc projects as required, such as budgeting, forecasting, or system implementations.

Qualifications:

  • Qualified accountant: (ACCA, CIMA, or equivalent experience)
  • Proven Experience: Significant experience (5+ years) as a Financial Controller or in a similar senior finance role in a UK business.
  • Technical Expertise: Strong knowledge of accounting principles, financial reporting standards, and internal control frameworks.
  • Systems Proficiency: Experience with accounting software.
  • Communication & Leadership: Excellent communication, interpersonal, and leadership skills.
  • Problem-Solving: Strong analytical and problem-solving abilities.
  • Self-Starter: Ability to work independently and manage priorities effectively.

This role is office based, in Plymouth.
