Assistant AccountantPlymouth, Devon£30,000 - £35,000 per annum

Our client, a prominent organisation located in Plymouth, is presently recruiting an experienced Assistant Accountant to join their dynamic team on a full-time, permanent basis. This role offers an exciting opportunity to contribute to the company's success in a collaborative and fast-paced environment.

As the Assistant Accountant, you will be responsible for overseeing the efficient operations of the expense management function, ensuring accurate and timely reporting while continuously driving process improvements.

The responsibilities:

  • Manage accounts payable processes, including invoice processing through manual and automated systems, ensuring accurate general ledger coding.
  • Conduct financial reconciliations, including bank statements and supplier accounts, to maintain accurate financial records.
  • Perform regular analysis of profit and loss statements, investigating variances and preparing reports for management review.
  • Handle supplier communications and resolve account discrepancies in a timely and professional manner.
  • Oversee expense management, including processing weekly employee reimbursements and monthly corporate credit card reconciliations.
  • Execute month-end closing procedures, including preparation of accruals, prepayments, and other necessary journal entries.
  • Implement and maintain cost control measures through comprehensive review of profit and loss overhead categories.
  • Spearhead process improvement initiatives to enhance operational efficiency and identify potential cost-saving opportunities.

The candidate:

  • Hold an AAT qualification or a recognised accounting certification, with prior experience working in a finance office environment.
  • Possess team leadership or people management experience, with the ability to guide and motivate others effectively.
  • Demonstrate strong numeracy skills, with the ability to analyse large datasets and interpret financial information accurately.
  • Exhibit strong communication skills, both written and verbal, along with proficient IT skills, particularly in Excel, to efficiently manage and analyse financial data.
