Experienced Applications Engineer required for Global manufacturer based in Plymouth. In this role, the successful candidate will provide Engineering expertise both internally to all operational areas of the business, and provide technical product support to the client’s customers and wider distribution network.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Support Sales Managers with the technical aspects of developing new business opportunities.
  • Interpret and develop customer specifications to realise prototype products for evaluation.
  • Work closely with our colleagues based at other sites to ensure designs are fit for the European market.
  • Provide product training and support to OEM customers and distributors.
  • Support customers during start up and commissioning of equipment using hydraulic components and systems.
  • Represent the company during technical meetings, providing technical product presentations to potential and existing customers.
  • Provide necessary Engineering support to all internal stakeholders.
  • Provide Engineering support to Quality and Strategic purchasing teams with alternative material selection and standards comparisons relating to global company and ISO standards.
  • Development of Engineering procedures and methods to optimise value within the application Engineering team.
  • Creation of 3D models, 2D drawings and creation of bills of material.

Qualifications, Experience and Candidate attributes required:

  • A degree in Mechanical Engineering is preferred. In the absence of a degree, A HNC or HND in Mechanical Engineering will also be considered coupled with suitable experience gained as an Applications Design Engineer.  
  • A professional, disciplined Engineer with a logical approach to problem solving coupled with excellent attention to detail.
  • An appreciation of NPI (New Product Introduction) and APQP (Advanced Product Quality planning).
  • Competence in Project Management techniques and methodologies.
  • Understanding of Manufacturing processes and measurement methodologies.
  • Working knowledge of hydraulic component specification and application would be highly advantageous.
  • Ability to write well structured, concise technical reports.
  • Self-motivated, keen to take responsibility.

The successful candidate will be required to carry out occasional travel to Customers in the UK and overseas to provide Engineering support to customers and distributors.
