Electrical Fitter – Marine & Shipbuilding - New Year New Opportunity!

We are currently recruiting for an Electrical Fitter to work in Devonprt Dockard in Plymouth for the High Voltage Estates department who are responsible for operating and maintaining the Dockyard naval Base high voltage networks and associated plant and equipment to ensure that both 50Hz & 60Hz supplies are available to ensure both business continuity and nuclear safety.

This role is for a Frequency Changer Attendant and will involve monitoring 60hz/1200-volt motors, after training, lead to the operation and monitoring of High Voltage Rotating plant at CFCS.

An electrical background, approved apprenticeship and/or electrical ONC, is important and a basic understanding of motors and generation preferred.

Monitoring requires local meter reading, plant condition checking, temperature recording and transferring readings to relevant spreadsheets. Plant is also monitored remotely via System Control and Data Acquisition (SCADA)so a basic understanding of computers, word and excel would be of advantage. 

Role Responsibilities:

  • Monitor the frequency charger panels.
  • Respond to any issues with the frequency changers as directed by the Shift Manager.
  • Carrying out regular shift check.
  • Assist the Shift Manager with frequency changer operations.

Essential experience:

  • Experience of working with control and instrumentation.
  • Ability to read electrical and engineering drawings
  • Previous experience of operating or maintaining electrical plant and equipment.
  • Competent in the use of general workshop machinery specific to electrical fitting.

Required Qualifications: 

  • Level 3 Modern Apprenticeship in an electrical discipline
    Armed Forces PO/CPO/NCO with electrical specialisation
  • OR Level 3 Electrical Engineering qualification
  • Must be computer literate, eg MS office18th Edition desirable.

35 hours standard with a possibility of shift and overtime and travel allowance paid if not local.
