We are looking for a Control Room assistant to join our busy team for 2 months with the possibility of this being extended.
  • Annual Salary: £12.85 Per Hour, Paid Weekly
  • Location: Plymouth Control Room
  • Job Type: Part-time (3-week cyclical shift pattern equivalent to 30hrs per week) plus potential of overtime

This role is crucial in maintaining a safe, effective, and efficient travel corridor. If you are looking for a dynamic role that combines supervision, communication, and technical skills, this position might be perfect for you.

Day-to-day of the role:
  • Supervise maintenance operations using CCTV, sound monitoring, and bespoke Control Systems (MCS) to ensure compliance with safety, operational, and financial procedures.
  • Handle basic staff and customer/colleague enquiries by telephone, email, and face-to-face, routing complex issues to the relevant management team leader.
  • Engage directly with individuals involved in road traffic accidents, victims of crime, or vulnerable persons under direction, which may involve dealing with suicide or mental health issues.
  • Assist drivers problems using lane intercoms/radio handsets.
  • Issue Debit Notices to customers to receive payments, and handle other financial transactions.
  • Monitor and check monies and end-of-shift reports, ensuring all cash is deposited in the night-safe.
  • Operate CCTV and other surveillance equipment in compliance with guidelines and Data Protection Legislation.
  • Provide traffic condition updates to the media and administer office access control for staff, contractors, and visitors.
  • Compile daily reports and issue Permits to Work as directed.
  • Undertake Fire Warden duties or other responsibilities during incidents or upon activation of alarms as directed.
Required Skills & Qualifications:
  • Experience in surveillance or control room operations is advantageous.
  • Strong communication skills and the ability to handle sensitive situations with tact and professionalism.
  • Proficiency in using technical monitoring systems and understanding of Data Protection Legislation.
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team, with a high standard of integrity and reliability.
  • Basic data processing skills and competency in financial transactions.
