Day-to-Day of the Role:
  • Provide targeted support to individual students or small groups, reinforcing instruction as directed by the teacher.
  • Assist with the implementation of lesson plans and intervention strategies tailored to meet the needs of students.
  • Monitor and record student progress, providing feedback to teachers and contributing to the development of individualized education plans (IEPs).
  • Support students with behavioural, social-emotional, and academic needs, ensuring a positive and inclusive learning environment.
  • Collaborate with teachers and other staff to modify materials and instructions to accommodate diverse learning styles and abilities.
  • Supervise students during classroom activities, breaks, and field trips, ensuring their safety and well-being.
  • Encourage positive behaviour and implement behaviour management strategies as needed.
  • Develop and run specific programmes and activities to assist the studentsā€™ individual learning, language, social, and emotional needs.
  • Review progress and provide feedback via the Annual Review process.
  • Promote the inclusion and acceptance of all students.
  • Set challenging and demanding expectations and promote self-esteem and independence.
  • Provide feedback to students and parents in relation to progress and achievement under the guidance of the teacher or speech and language therapist.
  • Deliver pastoral and learning support.
  • Deal with minor incidents and the health and hygiene of the children and, where necessary, escort them home.
Required Skills & Qualifications:
  • GCSEs (or equivalent) in English and Maths; additional qualifications in education or child development are desirable.
  • Previous experience working with children in an educational setting, particularly with those requiring additional support.
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to build positive relationships with students, staff, and parents.
  • Patience, empathy, and a genuine passion for helping students succeed.
  • Ability to work collaboratively as part of a team and adapt to the needs of the school environment.
  • Having a DBS on the update service is an advantage.
