Our client, a prestigious global engineering firm based in Plymouth are looking for an experienced Buyer.

Job Purpose

We are seeking an experienced MRP buyer to join an established procurement team. The successful candidate will be responsible for sourcing and procuring material and services as required, as well as ensuring the timely delivery of purchased goods. The ideal candidate should have knowledge of logistics and be experienced in the use of Microsoft Office.

Key Accountabilities

  • Manage and execute the procurement of materials, goods and services from approved suppliers in accordance with company procedures, based on MRP recommendations and demands from internal stakeholders.
  • Responsible for cost, quality, delivery and overall performance of suppliers
  • Drive and measure supplier performance; manage supplier base.
  • Identify, resolve and follow-up any issues with purchase orders, deliveries and invoices.
  • Assist with inventory management and maintain accurate stock levels.
  • Develop and maintain positive relationships with suppliers and internal stakeholders.
  • Collaborate with cross functional teams to ensure efficient and effective procurement processes.
  • Negotiate contracts with suppliers to achieve the best value for the organisation.
  • Conduct supplier audits.
  • Utilise MRP to generate purchase orders and ensure the reliability/accuracy of the procurement data in the MRP.
  • Prepare, analyse and distribute reports on procurement activity in a timely manner.
  • Develop a robust logistics supply chain and provide cover for the logistics function during holiday periods.

Knowledge, Skills and Experience

  • CIPS qualified or working to CIPs qualification.
  • Degree in Purchasing/Supply chain/Business management or similar (desirable).
  • Minimum of 3 years experience in procurement or related field.
  • Knowledge of MRP Systems and procurement best practices.
  • Knowledge of logistics for both domestic and international freight.
  • Strong negotiation and communication skills.
  • Proficient use of Microsoft Office particularly Excel and Word.
  • Team player, but able to work independently and autonomously on specific tasks. Not afraid to take leadership.
  • Excellent organisational and time management skills
  • Good project management.
  • Attention to detail and accuracy in data entry.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills. Ideally some engineering background or a good technical understanding.
  • Fluent in English.
