Career Teachers are recruiting passionate and qualified Teaching Assistants to work in a range of Primary Schools in the Wakefield Education Authority. Successful applicants can work on a full time or part time basis.

Career Teachers support a range of schools including Independent, SEN and Faith Schools.

We are looking for a compassionate and dedicated SEN Teaching Assistant to join our team at a mainstream school in Pontefract. This 2 form-entry school has high expectations of its pupils and the whole team work together to ensure the best outcomes for all. This is a full-time position is available from November.

The successful candidate will support a child in Year 4 who is working at Year 3 levels. The child has been diagnosed with Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD) and Dyspraxia. Your role will be crucial in helping the child access the curriculum, develop social skills, and achieve their individual learning goals.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Provide tailored support to the child during lessons and activities.
  • Implement individualised education plans (IEPs) and adapt learning materials as needed.
  • Foster a positive and inclusive learning environment.
  • Assist with the child's physical needs, if required.
  • Collaborate with teachers, SENCO, and other professionals to monitor progress and adjust support strategies.
  • Encourage the child's independence and confidence.

Requirements:

  • Experience working with children with SEN, particularly ASD and Dyspraxia.
  • Relevant qualifications in education or child development (e.g., CACHE Level 3, NVQ Level 3).
  • Patience, empathy, and a genuine passion for supporting children with special educational needs.
  • Strong communication and teamwork skills.
  • Ability to adapt and be flexible in a dynamic school environment.
