We are seeking a Production Chemist to join our client's team and take responsibility for the optimal performance of their plating facility. This hands-on role involves managing both the Commercial and Operational requirements, with a focus on monitoring, testing, and developing processes to ensure quality and compliance.

  • Full time - Permanent
  • Monday to Thursday 8am to 5pm and Friday 8am to 12.30pm
  • Poole, Dorset

Key Responsibilities:

  • Oversee the plating facility, ensuring it meets both Operational and Commercial objectives through rigorous process monitoring, testing, and adherence.
  • Manage and operate the business's effluent system, ensuring waste is controlled and disposed of in line with company policy and legal regulations.
  • Perform basic plant maintenance, including the upkeep of filters, temperature controls, and other routine tasks to maintain optimal conditions.
  • Conduct quality checks, inspection routines, and analyse process performance data to ensure compliance and escalate any risks of non-conformance.
  • Provide expertise and support across all chemistry processes.
  • Lead and mentor a chemistry assistant to achieve defined objectives.
  • Collaborate with local authorities to manage effluent and ensure adherence to consents.
  • Drive continuous improvement of chemistry processes and procedures through the application of experience and knowledge.
  • Maintain accurate logs, records, and process documentation to comply with internal, legal, and regulatory standards, including ISO14001 & ISO9001.
  • Lead investigations and improvement activities to enhance chemistry processes and uphold health, safety, and cleanliness standards.

Key Requirements:

  • Strong knowledge and experience of Health & Safety and Environmental procedures.
  • Previous experience in electroplating or other surface treatments is highly preferred.
  • Proven experience managing and processing plating effluent streams is desirable.
  • A degree in Chemistry or equivalent knowledge (e.g., proven experience, GCSEs (A-C), A-Levels, or vocational qualifications) is required.
  • Understanding of chemistry maintenance routines and their practical application is advantageous.
  • Previous experience in a production environment is a plus.
  • Attention to detail, a diligent and methodical approach, and strong communication skills.
  • Ability to prioritise work effectively to achieve results.
