About the school:
The school is an education setting based for 16 – 25+ years old with Special Educational Needs. It is based on 350 acres of beautiful Dorset countryside. The school operate enterprise activities and vocational teaching methods to bridge the gap between education and employment for young people and adults with SEN in Dorset and the local area. The school focuses on vocations like horticulture, agriculture, equine skills and animal care as well as many more, to enrich the lives and education of its pupils.
The Role
As a Post-16 SEN Teaching Assistant, you’ll support students in vocational training and outdoor activities like horticulture, animal care, and equine skills. You’ll help build their practical skills, confidence, and employability, while offering personal and emotional support in a rural setting.
Key Responsibilities:
- Assist with the delivery of vocational courses, including horticulture, agriculture, equine, and animal care.
- Provide one-to-one or small group support, tailored to individual students’ needs.
- Support students in practical, outdoor learning activities.
- Encourage the development of life skills, independence, and employability.
- Foster a positive and inclusive learning environment.
- Support students in managing their emotional and behavioural needs, with guidance from the teaching team.
- Help students with their personal care, as required.
Requirements:
- Experience working with young people or adults with Special Educational Needs (SEN) is desirable.
- A passion for outdoor education and practical learning.
- A patient, empathetic, and adaptable approach to supporting students.
- Strong communication skills and the ability to work as part of a team.
- Enthusiasm for fostering independence and supporting students’ personal development.
- A positive attitude and willingness to work outdoors in all weather conditions.
