We are looking for an enthusiastic, self-motivated Systems Technician with mechanical and electrical knowledge who can work with full-time staff and volunteers to maintain some of the most prestigious and technologically advanced equipment at the RNLI.Development and training will be provided to ensure your skills and knowledge can be utilised fully within the RNLI. We have a broad and interesting range of equipment needing to be supported and we welcome enquiries from suitably qualified technicians working within the following sectors.Suitable candidates currently working within following industries:- Commercial/leisure Marine maintenance/service/repair- Construction equipment maintenance/service/repair- Heavy goods vehicle maintenance/service/repair- Agricultural equipment maintenance/service/repair- Car/Van maintenance/service/repair- Military equipment maintenance/service/repairSome of the benefits- Salary in the region of £28,334 to £33,334 (dependent on experience) (dependent on experience)- A vehicle will be made available for you to carry out your duties- 26 days’ annual leave plus Bank Holidays- Outstanding pension scheme (contributions of up to 16% of basic salary)- Life assurance- Health and dental cash plan- Training on specific equipment and development opportunities providedYour roleYou will become part of a unique, diligent, and professional team working with Lifeboat Station Mechanics, Lifeguards, Contractors, and other technical staff to carry out planned maintenance, fault diagnosis and defect repair on boats and launching equipment across the Southwest Region.This role would be ideal for someone living in ideally around the South or North coastal areas.Part of your duties as a systems Technician will include trials of existing and repaired equipment so you will need to possess and demonstrate excellent mechanical and electrical knowledge.You should have a desire to stay current in the use of existing technology and a willingness to learn and be involved in the roll out and assessment of new equipment which is constantly changing within the RNLI’s search and rescue assets.About youYou will have a minimum Level 3 NVQ, City & Guilds, HNC or equivalent in a mechanical engineering discipline which should also include electrical elements and ideally have a completed a time-served apprenticeship in a marine or vehicle-based engineering position. IT skills.This role is suitable for someone that is self-motivated and willing to go that extra mile. Working either as a part of a team or under your own initiative to the highest of standards with a first fix approach to return RNLI search and rescue assets back on service as soon as possible. You will need to take on new ideas and undertake training where needed.You will need a full driving licence plus the willingness and flexibility to work out of hours when the need arises and be on a call out roster. The on-call rota is currently 1 week in 16. The role is to cover within the Southwest Region generally looking after several stations within this area. Occasional travel with nights away will also be required throughout the Southwest Region which covers Cornwall, Devon, Somerset, and Dorset, plus the Channel Isles.Driving licence B+E for towing and a forklift licence are beneficial but not essential. If required training will be provided for this.The RNLI put its equipment through some of the most severe conditions, so precision, attention to detail and high-quality workmanship is paramount.
