We are currently seeking an experienced Operations Manager to lead the Port Operations Service. The successful candidate will be responsible for ensuring the provision of suitable equipment, resources, and training, as well as maintaining strategic and tactical control of the company’s principal activities. This role is integral to the safe, efficient, and cost-effective management of our client's operations.

Day to Day of the Role:
  • Provide suitable equipment, resources, vehicles, and training to staff.
  • Maintain strategic and tactical control of the company’s principal activities.
  • Conduct regular reviews with the General Manager on operations and company requirements.
  • Keep the General Manager informed of all important issues.
  • Set and enforce performance standards for staff.
  • Implement and maintain ISO9001 and ISO45001 standards, ensuring continuous improvement.
  • Schedule Port Operators and manage peak demand allocation for tugs.
  • Participate in Management reviews and Internal audits of the Quality Management System.
  • Review bi-annual staff self-appraisals for the Assistant Manager, Shift Supervisors, Port Operators, and Secretary/Administrators.
  • Conduct Sub-contractor reviews.
  • Oversee operational control of the company’s ancillary activities.
  • Monitor attendance and address any issues during shifts.
  • Oversee the maintenance and repair of the company’s vehicles and plant equipment.
  • Maintain vehicle fuelling records.
  • Ensure all work adheres to safe working practices as defined by PHS management.
  • Attend Operational, Health & Safety, Works, and Welfare meetings.
  • Manage the purchasing of vehicle-related consumables.
  • Take ultimate responsibility for the Occupational Health & Safety Management system.
Required Skills & Qualifications:
  • Proven experience in operations management within a port or similar industrial environment.
  • Familiarity with Quality Management Systems, specifically ISO9001 and ISO45001.
  • Strong leadership skills with the ability to set clear standards and expectations.
  • Excellent organisational and planning skills.
  • Ability to conduct management reviews and internal audits.
  • Competence in overseeing staff appraisals and performance reviews.
  • Commitment to maintaining safe working practices.
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
