Reed HR have partnered exclusively with a growing logistics company in Portsmouth who are seeking an HR Assistant to join their HR team. This is a permanent role which will oversee the full employee lifecycle, provide first-line advice to employees and collaborate on projects within the team. The ideal candidate will be a positive team player passionate about the employee journey and delivering an excellent service consistently.

Day-to-day of the role:

  • Assist with the recruitment process by identifying candidates, conducting reference checks and issuing employment contracts.
  • Support the onboarding process for new hires, including preparing starter packs and coordinating induction plans.
  • Maintain employee records according to policy and legal requirements.
  • Review employment and working conditions to ensure legal compliance.
  • Update HR databases with different information such as new hires, terminations, absence and holiday.
  • Assist in payroll preparation by providing relevant data, like absences, bonus and leaves.
  • Prepare paperwork for HR policies and procedures.
  • Process employees’ requests and provide relevant information.
  • Collaborate with the HR Manager to develop effective recruitment strategies.
  • Assist with performance management procedures.

Required Skills & Qualifications:

  • Proven experience as an HR Assistant or relevant human resources/administrative position.
  • Strong ability to use MS Office (MS Excel and MS PowerPoint, in particular).
  • Experience with HR software, like HRIS or HRMS.
  • Basic knowledge of employment laws.
  • Excellent organisational and time-management skills.
  • Strong phone, email, and in-person communication skills.
  • GCSEs or equivalent, including Maths and English; a degree in Human Resources or related field is a plus.
