The Role - Cared for Children Service

As a Looked After Children (LAC) Social Worker, you will be instrumental in ensuring that children and young people in long-term care arrangements receive the same high level of care, support, and opportunities as their peers. Your work will be centred on building strong, trusting relationships, guiding them through key transitions, whether that's reunification with their family, placement stability, or the journey towards independence.



Key Responsibilities:

  • Supporting Looked After Children up to the age of 14 - Ensuring they feel safe, supported, and valued in their placements.

  • Permanency Planning & Court Proceedings - Managing cases from the first hearing to ensure stability and long-term security for children.

  • Discharging Care Orders & Transition Planning - Facilitating smooth transitions into permanent placements or independence.

  • Looked After Children Reviews & Multi-Agency Collaboration - Engaging with professionals across services to ensure the best outcomes.

  • Care Plans & Pathway Plans - Developing robust, child-centred plans that shape a young person's future.

  • Children & Family Assessments - Identifying needs and ensuring the right support is in place.
