Quality Control Technician (Night Shift)

We are working with a speciality chemicals company with a globally leading position in development of systems and products for a range of applications in building and transportation. They are present in over 100 countries around the world, employing over 30,000 people. They are seeking a Quality Control Technician in Preston.
We are looking for a pro-active individual from a quality, R&D or related science laboratory background. Fast learner with a keen eye for detail. Work in a systematic and methodical manner undertaking the same task with the same precision each time.
This is a shift-based role with working hours 10pm-6am.
What youll do:
- Carrying out the day-to-day quality control processes within the operational and lab environments
- Ensure that raw material, in-process, and product testing is effectively, accurately, and promptly carried out using specified methods & accurately record results in SAP.
- Advise on corrective actions and appropriate recording methods to maintain manufactured product within specification.
- Performing additional quality related testing and investigation and where needed to take lead on quality matters.
- Carry out and report upon investigative test work required i.e., non-conforming product, goods returned, ageing stock, customer returns or alternative sources of raw materials.
- Fulfil periodic testing and recording requirements.
- Undertaking Quality Lab related administration tasks
- Assist in preparation of new QC Specifications and provision of information to ensure the on-going accuracy of such documentation.
- Devise and prepare new Test Procedures and assist in developing existing ones.
- Advise upon any laboratory equipment, the acquisition of which could improve the efficiency and/or accuracy of Quality Control testing.
- Adhering to professional standards that ensure the quality and effectiveness of the laboratory.
- Maintain a high standard of laboratory cleanliness.
- Ensure that test equipment is properly and correctly used, calibrated, and maintained to specified standards and that safe working practices are always adopted.
- Ensure that adequate materials are available in the laboratory to fulfil the Quality Control function.
- Provide cover for holidays, absence, shift cover and volume of work.
- Understanding of lean Methodologies and their appropriate use to drive continuous improvement.
- Confident and comfortable in data driven decision making when needed, be able to work on own initiative.
Your background:
- A degree in chemistry or equivalent industry experience.
- Experience of working in a QC/R&D/Manufacturing/Production Environment.
- Experience of working in a laboratory environment.
- Practical experience / knowledge of handling building industry related products.
- Working knowledge of MS Office, spreadsheets, databases and emails.
- Ability to multi-task and handle workloads under pressure.
- Problem solving and creative ability. Strong team player. Good interpersonal skills - able to form good working relationships with other departments.Good time keeping with a strong work ethic.
