Romano Education is looking for a dedicated and compassionate Teaching Assistant to support a pupil with autism in a mixed Year 1/2 class at a primary school in the PR3 area of Preston. This is a full-time role, Monday to Friday (8:45 AM - 3:30 PM), paying £14.55 per hour.

About the Role:

This role involves working 1:1 with a pupil with autism, providing tailored support to help them engage with learning and develop their social and communication skills. You’ll play a key role in creating a structured and supportive learning environment, helping the pupil feel safe, confident, and included in the classroom.

What You’ll Be Doing:
  • Providing individualised support, adapting learning activities to suit the pupil’s needs.
  • Helping the pupil develop positive learning behaviours and build confidence in their abilities.
  • Using strategies to manage sensory sensitivities, anxiety, or communication difficulties in a positive way.
  • Working closely with the class teacher and SENCO to follow and implement tailored learning plans.
  • Assisting with daily classroom activities, encouraging participation, and promoting independence.
  • Building a trusting relationship with the pupil and supporting their emotional well-being.
  • Communicating effectively with teachers, parents, and support staff to ensure consistency in support.
What We’re Looking For:
  • Experience working or volunteering with children in any setting (this could be in a school, nursery, youth club, tutoring, or any childcare role).
  • A Teaching Assistant qualification or childcare qualification would be beneficial, but it’s not essential.
  • A patient, caring, and understanding approach, with the ability to adapt to the needs of the pupil.
  • A passion for working with children with additional needs, particularly autism.
  • Strong communication and teamwork skills to work effectively with teachers, SEN staff, and parents.
The Details:
  • Start Date: ASAP
  • Contract: Until the end of July 2025, with the potential to go permanent for the right person.
  • Hours: Monday to Friday, 8:45 AM - 3:30 PM.
  • Pay Rate: £14.55 per hour.
