Personal Advisor, Leaving Care Service, West Sussex Location: Worthing, West Sussex Working Pattern: Full-timeWorking Arrangements: Hybrid working model. Contract Type: Fixed-Term/TemporaryRole Overview:Pertemps are seeking an experienced Personal Advisor to join the Leaving Care Service and play a critical role in supporting young people aged 16-21, and in some cases up to 25, as they transition from care to independent adulthood. This service is part of West Sussex County Council's Corporate Parenting team, which directly supports over 600 young people annually.As a Personal Advisor, you will guide, advise, and enable care leavers to achieve their aspirations and develop the skills needed for a successful transition into adulthood. You will also play a vital role in managing risks, assessing safety needs, and creating robust safety plans for vulnerable young people.Responsibilities:
  • Build trusted relationships with care leavers to support their journey toward independence.
  • Assess and meet their learning, personal, and social needs.
  • Guide young people in areas such as healthy living, stable housing, and accessing educational or employment opportunities.
  • Support care leavers with complex needs, including trauma, mental health, substance misuse, or offending behaviors.
  • Manage safety and risks through assessments, safety planning, and effective interventions.
  • Collaborate with internal and external services to ensure holistic support.
Requirements:
  • Proven experience working with children, either as a Personal Advisor or within Children’s Social Care.
  • Experience supporting care leavers or young people transitioning to adulthood.
  • Knowledge of trauma-informed practice and understanding the challenges faced by care leavers.
  • Strong interpersonal skills to build meaningful relationships with young people and stakeholders.
  • Ability to assess risks and manage safety planning effectively.
  • A proactive and creative approach to problem-solving and service delivery.
