A new, exciting role for a Field Service Engineer is now available within on of the UK's leading providers of medical devices, specifically within clinical diagnostics.


Company overview

This new Service Engineer position is within an established and secure organisation who are well known for their excellent engineering training, long term employee retention and exceptional customer service.

With a number of engineers based across the UK, you will be well support by a service engineering team along with a tried and tested training programme.

This organisation offers progression opportunities into senior roles. This position is being recruited to back fill a vacancy created having promoted someone else internally!



Job information - Service Engineer


As the Service Engineer, you will be responsible for the breakdown repair, routine servicing and maintenance of laboratory based, clinical diagnostics devices, specifically within pathology (the study of disease). These are medical devices in their own rights, typically with an electronic bias, however electro-mechanical skills are required.

You will be field-based predominantly covering client sites in South and West London and the surrounding areas, with additional travel to customers in Portsmouth and Southampton.

Roles/responsibilities include;

  • To carry out electronic/mechanical fault finding, repair and servicing of equipment.
  • To provide excellent customer service.
  • To problem solve, combining initiative with a practical and logical approach to all aspects of the position.
  • To maintain adequate stock levels of spare parts, completing stock checks when required.
  • To organise and prioritise a continuously changing workload, ensuring that all customer's calls and enquiries are replied to.
  • To produce reports using company used software.


Full training is provided, so applicants with any electro-mechanical maintenance, service and repair experience would be welcome as long as you have an electronic qualification, field-based experience and are seeking a long term commitment.


This role offers excellent work life balance, with 38hr working week (including travel) working Monday to Friday, and more often than not you're home early from your working day! There is no weekend working or on call expectation but paid voluntary on call over Christmas is available.

Experience required - Field Service Engineer

  • Previous electronic or electro-mechanical fault finding and repair experience.
  • An electronic engineering qualification
  • Previous field-based experience
  • Someone seeking a long term commitment
  • Strong customer service skills
  • An interest in working within the medical/ clinical diagnostics field.
  • Any experience with medical equipment would be beneficial (but NOT essential). Armed forces engineers are also of interest.
