Deputy Head Teacher

Role Purpose:


The Deputy Head Teacher will work closely with the Head of Schools and Senior Leadership Team to provide dynamic leadership and management that reflects the vision, policies, and practices of the provision. The role includes motivating staff, setting high standards, implementing outstanding teaching strategies, and driving learner achievement. The Deputy Head Teacher is accountable for the operational functioning of the site and serves as the main liaison on operational matters with the Head of Schools.

Key Responsibilities:

Site Management

- Lead the operational delivery of education services for learners.
- Collaborate with the Head of Schools and Senior Leadership Team to develop and maintain a culture of excellence, collaboration, and high expectations.
- Articulate and implement the school’s vision and strategic direction through coherent operational plans.
- Drive school improvement initiatives to achieve the highest standards in learning and teaching.
- Support and supervise learning managers, fostering ambition and continuous improvement.
- Monitor and ensure staff performance aligns with organizational targets and strategic priorities.
- Contribute to the school’s self-evaluation, development, and quality assurance processes, including:
- Moderating pupil achievements and behavior.
- Ensuring staff fulfill their responsibilities effectively.
- Preparing reports and attending relevant meetings (e.g., local authority and multi-agency reviews).
- Maintain a visible and effective leadership presence.

Teaching and Learning Leadership
- Monitor and enhance the quality of learning and teaching across the school.
- Promote strategies to raise learner achievement and manage intervention programs.
- Model best practices in teaching and foster innovative and creative approaches to education.
- Ensure personalised learning is central to curriculum planning and delivery.
- Contribute to planning a diverse, flexible curriculum and assessment framework aligned with the school’s inclusive ethos.
- Oversee behavior and attendance strategies to maintain high standards.
- Prepare reports to support pupil reviews and Education, Health, and Care (EHC) plans, attending meetings as needed.
- Advocate for young people and their families, encouraging their active participation in educational decision-making.
- Coordinate and manage a caseload of learners, fulfilling duties reflective of a Learning Manager role.

Staff Development and Leadership
- Keep staff informed of the school’s strategic objectives and priorities through effective communication.
- Act as a designated safeguarding lead, ensuring pupil safety at all times.
- Support the recruitment, induction, and professional development of staff to align with the school’s goals.
- Implement effective performance management processes, addressing underperformance and ensuring corrective actions.
- Engage in continuous professional development and support the development of others.
- Lead by example, promoting equal opportunities and fostering a culture of excellence.

General Responsibilities
- Participate in day-to-day school management and act in accordance with organizational policies and procedures.
- Carry out additional duties as requested by the Directors or Senior Leadership Team.

Performance Indicators:
- Achievement of positive outcomes for young people.
- Meeting performance management criteria to a high standard.
- Adherence to responsibilities and organizational policies.
- Effective demonstration of outcomes-focused practice through regular supervision and support.

Key Requirements:
- Familiarity with education standards and frameworks such as Ofsted and Teacher Standards.
- Proven leadership skills and experience in driving school improvement.
- Strong commitment to safeguarding and learner wellbeing.
- A proactive and collaborative mindset to foster staff and learner development.
