Bookkeeper - Reading

We are seeking an experiencedBookkeeper to play a crucial role in supporting our finance function as we transition from an outsourced finance team to an in-house setup. This role is perfect for someone who takes pride in doing a solid, reliable job, focused on ensuring the smooth running of day-to-day financial operations.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Bookkeeping Excellence: Manage day-to-day accounting activities, maintaining accurate and up-to-date financial records.
  • VAT Returns: Prepare and submit VAT returns, ensuring full compliance with HMRC regulations.
  • Supplier & CIS Payments: Handle supplier invoicing, payment processing, and manage CIS (Construction Industry Scheme) payments where applicable.
  • System Support: Work with accounting systems, ideally Sage Intacct or Sage 200, and familiarity with PO tools would be advantageous.
  • Finance Transition: Support the transition from an outsourced to an in-house finance function, bringing a proactive, problem-solving mindset to navigate the initial complexities.

What We’re Looking For:

  • Proven experience as a Bookkeeper in a busy finance/office environment.
  • Strong working knowledge of bookkeeping principles and financial processes.
  • Experience with Sage Intacct, Sage 200, or similar systems is highly desirable.
  • Competent in managing VAT submissions, supplier payments, and CIS compliance.
  • A team player with a pragmatic approach—focused on getting the job done well.
  • Organised, detail-oriented, and adaptable, especially during periods of change.
