Introduction

We have an exciting opportunity for an experienced Business Development Director to take charge of sales growth across key verticals including grocery, convenience, home and DIY, health and beauty, FMCG retail, and other sectors. The individual will be responsible for meeting agreed sales targets through expert acquisition and the development of new business prospects. This role demands the deployment of effective sales strategies, consultative selling, and the development of strong, trusted relationships with potential clients.

The Role

The Business Development Director will be responsible for managing the sales cycle within the assigned territory, driving prospecting efforts, and developing strategies to penetrate the UK and EMEA markets. They will engage with various stakeholders in prospects, ensuring proposals align with the client's strategies, and ultimately close deals.

Responsibilities

  • Expertly manage the sales cycle for prospects, including lead follow-up, creating tailored approaches, delivering proposal presentations, and working with key stakeholders to secure contracts.
  • Contribute to the development and deployment of a robust sales strategy to further expand the business across the UK and EMEA markets.
  • Prospect for new leads within the UK and EMEA regions, supporting the overall growth strategy.
  • Demonstrate skill in closing deals by effectively balancing urgency and the consultative sales approach.
  • Present and negotiate sales offers, ensuring that client benefits and ROI are clearly communicated.
  • Adapt quickly to new markets and territories as needed.
  • Develop strong strategic relationships with prospects, ensuring the company is perceived positively at every level of the client's organisation.
  • Maintain accurate CRM records and provide timely feedback on performance, opportunities, and risks.

Requirements

  • Proven track record of success in sales within the retail sector.
  • Experience managing large-scale client wins and navigating complex negotiations, particularly within retail environments.
  • Demonstrated ability to secure significant and complex deals, with experience selling SaaS products or platforms in a retail setting.
  • Experience in the POS and payments space is a plus, alongside first-hand retail industry knowledge and networks.
  • A well-established network of industry contacts is advantageous, with a strong understanding of the challenges modern retailers face.
  • Self-motivated and driven to achieve sales goals across all stages of the process.
  • Ability to close deals, even when faced with difficult client expectations or challenging circumstances.
  • Capable of articulating the value proposition clearly and in the language of modern retail, demonstrating empathy and clarity.
