A South East based Local authority are currently recruiting for a Senior Finance Business Partner for an initial 3 month contract.

This rate for this assignment will be £500 - £600 per day umbrella (inside IR35) and ideally would like someone to start very soon.

They offer a very generous hybrid working arrangement with a minimum attendance of 2 days per month on site required.

It is essential that you will be a qualified accountant (CCAB) to be considered for this position.

You will also need to have extensive experience of working within local government finance as a business partner (ideally with direct experience supporting Environment services - planning, transport. public protection or Waste Disposal/sustainability)

Job Purpose

  • To be one of the financial advisers to support the Strategic Finance Business Partner for the relevant service directorate and to provide financial advice directly to service budget managers as required. You will be a finance expert supporting and advising service clients in delivering the Council’s strategic objectives.
  • You will be a member of the Finance Business Partnering Team, enabling quality decision making, to achieve successful outcomes, providing financial insight in shaping organisational strategy and major transformations to achieve corporate outcomes.
  • Contribute on value for money, return on investment, income generation, market analysis, supplier assessment and investment appraisal business cases.
  • Contribute to challenging budget managers and holding them to account for their budget management.
  • Provide evidence to the Strategic Finance Business Partner that will enable strategic challenge and supporting evidence to identify risks, opportunities and potential efficiency savings.

Main Duties and Responsibilities

  • To work with the relevant Strategic Finance Business Partner in delivering a high quality finance function in support of the objectives of the relevant directorate and within the budgetary provision made available;
  • To provide financial advice to nominated budget managers in the relevant directorate;
  • To be the conduit for securing specialist financial advice from other members of the
  • Finance Team, thereby making it easy for the relevant directorate to access the skills and expertise required to make sound decisions;
  • Contribute to the production and interpretation of the monthly budget monitoring information for the relevant directorate management team, assisting in providing an integrated approach to corporate performance, financial, workforce and risk management and reporting and strong governance in decision making;
  • Provide supporting evidence to identify risks, opportunities and potential efficiency savings;
  • Work with the budget managers, within corporate parameters, throughout the annual budget build process to ensure that cost drivers are understood and evaluated, savings proposals are carefully prepared, are deliverable, and that any new initiatives are evaluated so that the Strategic Finance Business Partner can support the relevant directorate management team to commit to delivering the resultant budget;
  • Work with finance colleagues and relevant budget managers, to deliver the year end close down processes as directed by the Chief Accountant;
