Consultant Psychiatrist

We have an exciting opportunity for a Consultant Psychiatrist to join our healthcare team at HMP Belmarsh, a category A prison. This role involves working with a diverse patient population, including high-profile patients with complex and acute mental health needs. You will collaborate with an integrated mental health and forensic psychology team across outpatient and inpatient ward services.

Day-to-day of the role:

  • Provide high-quality psychiatric care to a diverse patient population within the prison.
  • Conduct assessments, develop treatment plans, and monitor patient progress.
  • Collaborate with a multidisciplinary team to enhance the delivery of mental health services.
  • Engage in patient-facing activities for the majority of your working hours, focusing on direct care and interaction.
  • Adapt to the dynamic needs of the service and contribute to its ongoing development.
  • Provide excellent clinical care, assessment, and treatment to patients on the case load onsite.
  • Actively participate in the strategic direction of the mental health service, lead the senior mental health clinicians on service developments, and provide clinical supervision.
  • Work within the multi-disciplinary team to review referrals, determine appropriate treatment plans, conduct risk assessments, and engage in multi-professional complex case reviews.

Required Skills & Qualifications:

  • Registered professional with current registration (GMC).
  • Specialist Registration in either General Adult or Forensic Psychiatry.
  • Approved under section 12 (2) of the MHS 1983.
  • Experience in forensic settings is highly desirable.
  • Understanding of the complexities of multi-disciplinary and multi-agency working.
  • Up-to-date knowledge in adult psychiatry and personality disorders (PD).
  • Awareness of current issues in mental health service provision, policy, and legislation.
