Consultant Psychiatrist

Annual Salary: Up to £180,000 per annum, depending on experience
Location: South East London, near Plumstead and Woolwich Arsenal stations
Job Type: Full-time (Monday to Friday, 8am-4pm or 9am-5pm)

We have an exciting opportunity for a Consultant Psychiatrist to join our healthcare team at HMP Belmarsh, a category A prison. This role involves working with a diverse patient population, including high-profile patients with complex and acute mental health needs. You will collaborate with an integrated mental health and forensic psychology team across outpatient and inpatient ward services.

Day-to-day of the role:

Provide high-quality psychiatric care to a diverse patient population within the prison.
Conduct assessments, develop treatment plans, and monitor patient progress.
Collaborate with a multidisciplinary team to enhance the delivery of mental health services.
Engage in patient-facing activities for the majority of your working hours, focusing on direct care and interaction.
Adapt to the dynamic needs of the service and contribute to its ongoing development.
Provide excellent clinical care, assessment, and treatment to patients on the case load onsite.
Actively participate in the strategic direction of the mental health service, lead the senior mental health clinicians on service developments, and provide clinical supervision.
Work within the multi-disciplinary team to review referrals, determine appropriate treatment plans, conduct risk assessments, and engage in multi-professional complex case reviews.

Required Skills & Qualifications:

Registered professional with current registration (GMC).
Specialist Registration in either General Adult or Forensic Psychiatry.
Approved under section 12 (2) of the MHS 1983.
Experience in forensic settings is highly desirable.
Understanding of the complexities of multi-disciplinary and multi-agency working.
Up-to-date knowledge in adult psychiatry and personality disorders (PD).
Awareness of current issues in mental health service provision, policy, and legislation.
