Exciting Opportunity: Commercial Contracts Solicitor 

We’re hiring a Commercial Contracts Solicitor for a 5-6 month contract in Berkshire (Hybrid)! Lead the novation of contracts across our client's large and social impactful project to the wider Berkshire community.  

With support from a paralegal, your key responsibilities will include but not limited to:

Key Responsibilities:

  • Contract Novation: Lead the novation process for all contracts from BFfC to the council by the agreed transition date, including approximately 100 contracts on the main register, SLAs, IT licenses, and school transport supplier contracts.
  • Strategy: Follow and feed into the development of the agreed commercial transition strategy. Evaluate contracts to determine the transition approach for each, reviewing each contract’s terms and conditions to inform this. The approach may include contract novation, termination, modification or assignment.
  • Drafting and Negotiation: Draft, review, negotiate, prepare and complete   new contracts, including supply agreements, service agreements, and licensing agreements.
  • Communication: Communicate with contract providers as required to keep informed, addressing queries, issues or disputes as they raise.
  • Legal Advice: Provide expert legal advice on matters relating to contract novation.
  • Documentation: Maintain and update the Contracts Register, keeping accurate records and documentation of all planned and undertaken transition action.
  • Line Management and Supervision: Oversee and supervise the work of the temporary paralegal being brought in to support this work. Depending on timescales, support recruitment of this role.
  • Reporting: Report regularly on progress, risks and issues to the project lead for the Commercial Transition, and provide reports as required to the BFfC Contract Transition Programme Board.

Requirements:

  • Expertise in contracts and procurement law
  • Proven experience of drafting public contracts, contract novation, modification, termination and assignment.
  • Strong negotiation and communication skills
  • Qualified Solicitor, Barrister, or Fellow of the Chartered Institute of Legal Executive
