Senior Paralegal - Special Educational Needs

Location: Reading

We’re representing a firm who are looking for an experienced Senior Paralegal to join their dynamic and supportive Special Educational Needs (SEN) team in Reading. This is an exciting permanent opportunity to be part of a fast-paced and friendly environment, where you’ll receive full support from an experienced and forward-thinking team.

You’ll be encouraged to attend our Reading office approximately two days per week, with all necessary equipment provided for effective remote work.

Key Responsibilities

  • Manage new client enquiries, finances, budgets, and expert fees.
  • Maintain client records and databases.
  • Support marketing initiatives and assist in firm-wide promotional events.
  • Make client and third-party calls on behalf of senior fee earners.
  • Liaise with clients, local authorities, schools, and the Tribunal.
  • Request Subject Access Requests (SARs) from schools and local authorities.
  • Draft legal documents, including court forms, Grounds of Appeal, and client correspondence.
  • Prepare bundles, schedules of documents, and working drafts for EHCPs.
  • Research, contact, and arrange expert assessments.
  • Handle post-registration appeal steps and draft instructions for experts.
  • Contribute articles for the company website and assist with legal research.
  • Maintain high standards of work to uphold the firm’s strong reputation.

What We’re Looking For

  • Experience working within a legal environment, particularly SEN law.
  • Ability to work independently within set protocols and instructions.
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills.
  • Excellent client service and interpersonal skills.
  • High attention to detail and strong organisational abilities.
  • Ability to work effectively in a team as well as independently.
  • Proficient IT skills, including Microsoft Office (Excel, Word, Outlook, and databases).
