Safeguarding and Welfare Manager
Part time (27 hrs/wk), permanent
Split place of work between Horizons (Reading, Berkshire) and Home. A remote place of work may be possible
Salary £30,857 pa (£40,000 pa FTE) plus benefits

We have a brilliant opportunity for someone to join UCEM’s busy and ever-growing Disability and Welfare Team, providing invaluable support to UCEM’s students and making a real difference to the student journey. As the Safeguarding and Welfare Manager, you will work with the Safeguarding Team to ensure students are safe and supported throughout their studies with us, ensuring they are aware of the risks associated with studying online. You will directly line manage the Welfare Officer and act as the Deputy Designated Safeguarding Lead, ensuring the team are supported and ensuring UCEM’s safeguarding provision is effective and compliant with all safeguarding regulations.
Your accountabilities and responsibilities include:
- Manage the day-to-day running of the Safeguarding Team
- Manage a caseload of students with complex safeguarding concerns, making decisions and working with external partners to follow cases through to conclusion
- Develop and embed activities that will shape our institutional culture in relation to safeguarding, prevent, gender-based violence, harassment, hate crime and bullying
- Maintain and monitor training for staff covering Safeguarding, Prevent, Bullying and Harassment and Specialist Safeguarding Officer training
Our main requirements:
- Designated Safeguarding Lead training within the last 2 years
- Experience working in Safeguarding in the Further or Higher Education sector
- Experience with managing complex Safeguarding and Welfare cases
- Knowledge of current legislation and Higher Education institution responsibilities relating to Safeguarding, Prevent and Data Protection
