Regional General Manager - Leading International Science Company

Region: Southern England & Ireland

Salary: £90-110,000 + car allowance + bonus + great career prospects

Our client is a leading independent scientific group, providing laboratory analysis to the agriculture, food, and environmental sectors. We are excited to announce that due to significant business growth and internal progression we are supporting the company by recruiting a talented, career minded individual who is interested in developing a long-term career path. The successful candidate will play a key part in Company’s senior management team, supporting the operational deliverables and ensuring the business delivers its goals.

The role:

  • To lead the business acting as a role model for the team, achieved through hiring, managing, motivating, engaging, developing and retaining excellent managers and employees to establish a reliable and high performing team with a robust succession plan.
  • To ensure and guarantee development, control, implementation and continuous improvement of compliance with relevant legislation, regulation and accreditation requirements, including all relevant direct or indirect legal, health & safety and quality requirements of the business.
  • To work with the Senior Leadership team, identifying the unique value proposition of the business and to propose / develop the local strategy and business plan to achieve and/or expand market leadership in the area of responsibility.
  • To drive the successful organic growth of the business while also achieving/maintaining best industry standards and profitability, achieving this through taking appropriate measures to improve profitability, including having a hands-on personal commitment to address situations where profit levels are too low
  • To maintain and constantly improve customer satisfaction (including internal customers) and ensure the business delivers a high standard of service and expertise.
  • To ensure the effective management of the marketing and sales activities of the business in conjunction with the commercial team, particularly through building strong positive relationships with clients, developing an in-depth knowledge of their requirements and ensuring interactions are efficient and constructive.
  • To maintain an excellent knowledge of relevant testing/service methodologies and keep up to date with the latest advancements to maintain and improve the technical/scientific aspects of the business.
  • To support preparation of the annual operating plan, managing the P&L and cash-flow requirements the region.
  • To take steps to improve operational efficiency by using kaizen/lean processes.
  • To ensure annual reviews and objectives take place for all employees within the region.
  • To ensure there is a clear talent management plan in place for the region with succession planning for key / critical roles and development plans created.
  • To comply with and support the company HS & E policies and procedures.

The person:

  • Degree qualified, or equivalent, in a STEM subject
  • Proven experience of managing a commercial, customer-focused laboratory
  • Highly mobile with the flexibility to travel extensively, both nationally and internationally
  • Understanding of ISO, UKAS, audit procedures and methods.
  • Excellent commercial laboratory skills and practices as well as food/feed chemistry and microbiology techniques.
  • Proven track record in managing laboratories across a multi-site platform.
  • Excellent interpersonal communication skills and be able to lead and direct others with enthusiasm and energy.
  • Proven ability to motivate, coach and develop team members through sound decision making and collaborative skills
  • Proven operational and financial experience, with the ability to understand and drive a strong commercial agenda
  • Customer focused with a proven track record of nurturing and developing customer relationships
  • Proven experience of working within an organisation with a strong focus on lean production principles.
