A small freight forwarding company based in the West Midlands is now seeking a Business Development Manager to join their sales team. They specialise in providing international transport solutions by air, road and sea to exporters and Importers throughout the UK. Their clients range from sole traders to multinational blue-chip companies.
The Role of Business Development Manager
This senior sales role involves developing new business through cold calling and face-to-face visits. You will negotiate with air, road, and sea freight suppliers to obtain the most competitive rates, enabling you to calculate and submit quotations, follow up, and secure trial bookings. Once on board, you will be responsible for developing the business potential and nurturing the relationship.
Main Duties of the Busioness Development Manager
- New business development
- Account management of existing clients
- Building and nurturing client relationships to maximise business potential
- Negotiating with air, road, and sea freight suppliers to obtain rates
- Calculating and submitting quotations
- Following up on quotations to close and secure trial bookings
- Visiting new and existing clients (averaging one day per week)
- Internal liaison with the sales team to assist with quotations and service information
- Liaison with the operations team to pass on necessary client instructions and information
- Supporting the operations team with client communication when necessary
Skills & Experience Required
- Experience as Business Development Manager within the same or similar industry
- Freight industry experience is an advantage but not essential
- Cold calling experience
- Excellent customer service skills
- Confident communication skills
- Good organisational skills
- Attention to detail
- Ability to work to deadlines and handle pressure
- Quick thinker and problem solver
- Self-motivated and enthusiastic
- Ability to work with and support a team
Salary:
Up to £50,000, dependent on experience. Bonus with OTE £60,000.
Contributory pension.
22 days of annual leave plus bank holidays.
Working Environment
0830 - 1730, Monday to Friday
This is an office-based role (not hybrid) with a team of five sales professionals in a modern, open-plan office.
