Salary: 70,000 - 80,000 per annum

Reports To: Managing Director
Direct Reports: Fitters Team, Equipment Manager, Operations Assistant/Scheduler

Committed to operational excellence and customer satisfaction, they are seeking an experienced and motivated professional to lead their operations team.

Role Overview

The Head of Operations will oversee all operational aspects of the business, including hoist installation, maintenance, and the management of storage and workshop facilities. This role requires a strong leader who can ensure equipment is prepared and delivered to the highest standards, effectively manage schedules, and maintain customer satisfaction. Additionally, the role will focus on cost control and contribute to the long-term strategic growth of the business.

Key Responsibilities

Team Management

- Lead, manage, and support hoist installation and maintenance teams.

- Oversee recruitment, training, and performance management of operational staff.

- Foster a culture of safety, teamwork, and professionalism.

Operational Planning & Scheduling

- Plan and oversee equipment installations, removals, and maintenance activities.

- Optimise workforce allocation to meet project deadlines efficiently.

- Liaise with customers to ensure smooth execution of projects and timely service delivery.

Equipment Management

- Ensure hoists are prepared for installation in line with safety and quality standards.

- Manage stock levels and oversee the ordering of machines, equipment, and parts.

- Maintain efficient maintenance schedules to minimise downtime and prolong equipment lifespan.

- Supervise storage and workshop operations, ensuring inventory accuracy and organisation.

- Establish and oversee a centralised pre-loading and unloading process.

Transport & Fleet Management

- Manage the truck and van fleet, ensuring safety and cost-effectiveness.

- Ensure compliance with all relevant transport regulations.

Customer Experience

- Act as a key contact for customers, addressing operational concerns swiftly and effectively.

- Work closely with the sales team to align operational services with customer expectations.

Cost Management

- Monitor and control operational budgets, maintaining cost efficiency without compromising service quality.

- Identify cost-saving opportunities and implement process improvements.

Compliance & Safety

- Ensure full compliance with health, safety, and environmental regulations.

- Conduct regular safety audits and implement necessary corrective actions.

Strategic Contribution

- Work alongside senior management to define the future needs of the Operations function.

- Provide insights and recommendations to improve efficiency and support business growth.

Requirements

Key Skills & Experience:

  • Proven experience in an operations management role, preferably within the construction or heavy equipment rental sector.
  • Strong leadership skills with experience managing field teams and technical staff.
  • Knowledge of construction hoists, including installation and maintenance processes, is highly desirable.
  • Excellent planning, organisational, and scheduling abilities.
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills, with a customer-focused approach.
  • Solid understanding of cost management and operational budgeting.
  • Familiarity with health and safety regulations in the construction industry.
  • Full UK Driving License
